In the group activity of “Godalkanje” (Fiddling), we will mainly work on tunes from the treasury of European folk or popular music. The work takes place in a group, mostly without sheet music. This way, we casually learn to perceive music more attentively, increase our love for playing the instrument, and overcome stage fright, which is also useful for further classical education. Since it mostly involves rhythmic music, we also learn to follow the pulse and, in the process, positively release physiological posture through movement. Following fellow players in group play is also very useful in performing classical chamber music. We pay special attention to following the chordal structure and linking music theory with practice through the basics of improvised play. We also learn new performance techniques characteristic of various styles of violin playing. We acquire practical skills and a repertoire for everyday use, thus increasing the chances that creating and performing music will become and remain part of our daily lives, regardless of how ambitiously we embark on the path as violin virtuosos. You are welcome, we will have a great time!

Barja Drnovšek graduated from the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt under the guidance of Professor Helfried Fister and earned her master’s degree at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana with Professor Gorjan Košuta.During her studies, she developed a keen interest in folk music, participating in workshops and folk camps such as Ethno Histeria, Trad music workshop Lockenhaus, and Music Village. In addition to playing in classical orchestras like SFK Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Jeunesse Orchester, Arseia String Orchestra, MLS, Junge Philharmonie Wien, she increasingly dedicates her time to playing with ensembles that cultivate folk music (Symbolic Orchestra, Terrafolk, Ida&Other Bears, Grad gori!, duo with Bojan Cvetrežnik, Svetlana Makarovič, Baraka, and more). This passion soon turned into a professional pursuit, leading her to leave her position at a public music school for a freelance career as a performer and music teacher. Barja teaches violin and other instruments and conducts workshops as part of the educational activities of the Society for ONE Music. She also collaborates in theatrical and puppet shows and works as a studio musician recording music for films, animations, and popular music artists.
